A single-vehicle crash that occurred about 3:25 p.m. Thursday took the life of a Leighton man.
Howard C. Staggs, 44, was critically injured when the 2020 Chrysler 300 he was driving left the roadway, struck a culvert, a utility pole, a tree and then overturned, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
Staggs was transported to Helen Keller Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased while at the hospital. Staggs was not using a seat belt at the time of crash, ALEA said.
The crash occurred on Alabama 20 near Pruitt Drive, about one mile west of Leighton.
