ATHENS, Ala. - The Limestone County Sheriff's Office arrested 47-year-old Cesar Gonzales on charges related to a child sexual abuse investigation.
Lt. Jay Stinnett started the case on June 27 with help from the Alabama Department of Human Resources and the Limestone Child Advocacy Center. They investigated a report of a 14-year-old being sexually abused.
Gonzales was identified as the suspect, and investigators obtained warrants for his arrest, according to the sheriff's office. The office said Gonzales is originally from Mexico and living in Athens.
On July 17, Deputy Rolan Hipolito found Gonzales on Airfield Street in Athens and arrested him. Gonzales faces charges of rape and sexual abuse.
The sheriff's office said a hearing under Aniah's Law took place Thursday, resulting in Gonzales being held without bond. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has also placed a detainer on him due to his citizenship status.
